Manzanita Lake

Lassen National Park

Having grown up a few short miles from Lassen National Park it surprises me that I hadn't spent much time there. After a quick trip in the park, I have now vowed to change that. The day after the 4th of July 2015, my wife and I set out on our first step on exploring what this National Park has to offer. First stop...

Manzanita Lake

Set up against an amazing view of Lassen, this lake has crystal clear water allowing you to see what lies beneath. It's wrapped in a 1.8 mile walking loop with great views the entire way.

About 1/4 way through we found a good spot on shore to drop our bags and walk out to cool off.

From there we found ourselves dipping into a little thicker forest finding a few creatures and some fallen trees along the way.

About 3/4 around the lake we found Kayak and Canoe rentals on the shoreline. Without a thought, we set out to fully take in the picturesque views.

The ducks were super friendly as long as you didn't make any sudden moves. I was able to just about swim with the group as if I were one of them.

We ran out of time in the day for any further exploration but plotted our next target.

Having only made it about 1/2 mile into the park, we look forward to what's left to explore. Until next time...
