Year End Road Trip 2014: Part 4
Silver City, ID
Mining Town Adventure
Silver City was once a gold and silver mining town back in the 1880's that housed 2,500 people. Only accessible by dirt road, there are supposed to be 70 buildings left of this ghost town.
Early morning fill up to start the day. Gas prices are good!

8:19am - "So hard to make progress, I keep stopping to take pictures. I just got caught up trying to capture the tumbleweeds which are blowing across the road by the dozens. The wind is heavy and shaking my truck. Marty Robbins "The Strawberry Roan" on the radio. Life is good!"
Found the turnoff to Silver City. 20 miles back and word has it that it's closed for the Winter. Thinking if I can make it there, someone will let me have a quick look around. Who knows unless you try?
Excited to see if I can get into this old town. Sounds like it has a caretaker that watches over it during the winters. The locals are warning me not to get stuck out there as there is no cell service and no one to help at this time of year.
Ran across Nick here about 15 miles back. He and his buddy had 21 hound dogs and were out to hunt some Mountain Lions. He gave me a warning of snow ahead.
Sure enough, road closed. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it this time. Was about 2 miles away and I started to gain elevation quick. With that came the snow. It got a little too sketchy to push on any further alone. Although the sign said road closed I was able to keep going for a bit and the snow stopped me. Would have gotten pics but was too busy trying to not get stuck! I was soooo close, bummed I didn't make it. Gives me another reason to make the trip back one day in the spring or summer.
Since I couldn't get through the town I decided to turn back and make my way to Salt Lake City, UT for the night. Fun stuff, the journey continues...
